I want to explain to you how to defeat Glintstone Dragon Smarag in Elden Ring. The mechanics of the Glintstone Dragon Smarag are the same as those of a Flying Dragon Agheel. Instead of breathing fire, Smarag exhales Glidstone charged breath, as the name implies. He can also use his breath to fire short blindstone beams as well as stomps and sweep strikes with his claws, as the name implies. Those who volunteer to be faith builders, on the other hand, are in luck.

Where to find Smarag in Elden Ring

Glintstone Dragon Smarag location

Glintstone Dragon Smarag can be found in the Liurnia of the Lakes. You will find him in the wide swamps around Raya Lucaria Academy. He is a part of Thops’s questline in the Elden Ring quest, where you need to find the Academy Glintstone Key. The key to the academy is in a corpse where he spawned. You actually do not even need to fight this boss. If you don’t want to, you could just get the key and move on.

How to fight with Glintstone Dragon Smarag in Elden Ring

Basically, the aim is to be mobile and close the distance to him, hitting him in the wings if possible. These are simple targets to strike. Hit him as many times as you can before fleeing when he leaps into the air. He repositions himself, and you return to him. You may need to ride wide, or take a wide berth while returning to him. When this happens, one of these breathing projectiles will fire at you, so you don’t ride right into the flame, but you’ll just repeat the process again and over, and even if your weapon isn’t delivering a lot of damage, you usually don’t get struck too many times.

Tips and tricks for defeating Glintstone Dragon Smarag

So this is your typical dragon fight in Elden Ring. If you fought Flying Dragon Flying Dragon Agheel in Limb Grave, this fight is very similar with a couple exceptions. One, the boss has a much bigger arena to fight you in.

The other big difference is that the boss has a sort of like a meteor spell that he can summon and shoot at you. It doesn’t fall from the sky, it’s more like a projectile, I guess, but you’ll know it when you see it. Everything else is basically the same, though with the same sort of dragon fight. The head is still very much the weak point. I was not able to get this boss stunned unfortunately, but that’s okay.

Avoid Smarag’s breathe

Smarag’s Glintstone Breath is very dangerous

When the boss breathes his breath, it looks fantastic. This spell can be done repeatedly if you stay at a distance. However, if you close the gap, he should only do it once. It can’t really go behind him, but it can go to the side. If you hear him casting it and you’re on his side, I recommend moving and just giving up your attack and then repositioning because you really do not want to get hit by it. It deals a lot of damage. After you chased him down, you will notice that he despawned. So the rest of the fight plays out pretty much the same. He does still have his standard breath attack where you can just stand on his side and then just wail on his head over and over. He still has that, which is very very helpful. So whenever you see him standing to breathe, as long as he’s not about to cast that crystal soul mass sort of thing, you’re pretty much good.

You don’t want to get too far into the lake though, because you will aggro a bunch of enemies, and while smirag can kill them for you, you don’t necessarily want to rely on it.

Stay close to Smarag

He can land on different islands around this location. The other thing that Smarag can do is he can land on different islands around this location, which is pretty cool because it is a giant field boss, but it can be very difficult to actually fight him on those islands. If you notice that he does land on a mini island and it seems like if you were to get up there the angle wouldn’t be conducive to really fighting, well feel free to back up and let him fly somewhere else. It’s much better that way. At the very least, he can land at the top of a big island and then you’re just kind of like screwed from doing damage for a little while. At least in my opinion. I have attempted to fight him up here but it’s not very fun because of the camera angles and all that, so just do your best.

Don’t be terrified of his flames

So this time here, I noticed that the flames that are moving towards you, like when they hit the ground and they push towards you, those flames to you didn’t have an active hit box, it’s the ones on the ground. So if you feel like you’re getting chased by those flames and they’re looking at your feet, don’t give up, just keep going because chances are it’s just like the animated flame that’s really chasing you and the ones on the ground that deal damage to you’re safe from just keep that in mind.
